А можно точный vid и pid устройства? Есть несколько чипов которые еще не работают, но в основном проблем нету.

Когда вставляете карточку что происходит? Обратите внимание на вывод dmesg(наберите в командной строке). У меня есть подозрение, что убунта просто автоматом не монтирует карточку.

хочу принести извинения за свою ошибку..
вспомнил что у меня где-то завалялась еще одна карточка, откопал, обнаружил, что это SD card, вставил в ридер - смонтировалась влет.
оказывается то, чем я пользовался это memory stick, а не SD )). сходил в винду посмотреть, а то на самой карте не видно - заклеил лет 5 назад, когда покупал .
так что теперь вопрос чутка изменился: как заставить читаться эту memory stick?

Я погляжу завтра вечерком свой контроллер(сходу такую карточку просто не найду),  правда у меня точно не sdhc. MMC тоже должна работать, но я уже давно не пробовала ее втыкать. Вот и попробую

Как помнится,  для mmc есть отдельная опция в ядре и модули, не знаю встроены они у вас по умолчанию или нет. После установки карточка будет называться примерно mmcblk.

ксати параллельный вопрос. я всегда думал что карты от моего олимпуса встроенным ридером не читаются, так как вставить их туда не представляется возможным. а тут оказываеся, что в ноуте контроллер для xD card есть. и на карточке от фотика написано xD-Picture Card. это что за несоответствия? )) может я как-то не так все это время вставлял карту?

Ничего не могу сказать. xD-картридер вообще редкость в ноутбуках. Сам-то чип вроде поддерживает, а вот есть ли контакты я не знаю.

Посмотрите в в картридер, для xD должен быть отдельный ряд контактов. можно и просто попробовать воткнуть карточку.

Через переходник - работают 100%. Тут же джело не в дровах, а в картридере. Тот, про который речь шла выше, не поддерживает Memory Stick.

А вы пробовали ее вставлять? Девайсы новые появляются?

Контроллер определяется, карточка видится (mmc0), но нет драйверов к контроллеру.
Ядро 2.6.18 достоточно старое, в нем впервые подявилась поддержка контроллеров Ricoh(да и не во всех дистрибутивах). Я бы советовала вам обновить ядро или нужно переосбрать его, включив в опциях драйвера от Ricoh, так как тут драйвер не подгрузился. Но лучше обновить.
